Salesforce Winter ’18 Release Highlights

Based on your feedback, we improved information density, legibility, contrast, and even added a splash of color. That means less time scrolling and scanning and more time focused on what matters most. This change applies to Lightning Experience only.

Here’s a closer look at what’s changed.

  • More information density and less white space, so you can see more of what you need without scrolling.

  • Improved legibility (using font size and color) to draw attention to what’s most important.

  • Better contrast between foreground and background, making it easier to scan and scroll while staying focused on what you need. We even added color and a background image inspired by our own Trailhead.

We expanded the role for the Lightning Experience Readiness Check. Need help influencing stakeholders and executives to support your move to Lightning Experience? Want to know where your customizations stand as of Winter ’18? Or are you looking for more support to replace Visualforce pages or those old, tired s-controls? Run the Lightning Experience Readiness Check and get the support you need, presented clearly in the updated Readiness Report. These changes apply to both Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic. Available in: Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions.

Users can adjust column widths and wrap long lines of text in search results, making it easier for users to scan results without scrolling back and forth. Also, an improved sorting menu gets search results in order. This change applies to Lightning Experience only.

We made it easier to access favorites. Now you can right-click a favorite to open it in a new browser tab. This change applies to Lightning Experience only.

Leads

Your reps now save time when they convert leads. The new lead conversion process matches leads with contacts and accounts already in Salesforce. At the same time, reps create an opportunity or select one already in the works. This change applies to Lightning Experience only. Available in: Group, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions

Opportunities

Ensure that opportunities are more complete by having Salesforce prompt sales reps to add products to new or cloned opportunities. These changes apply to Lightning Experience only. Available in Lightning Experience in: Group, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions

Sales Console

Let users have their most-visited pages and important records, lists, groups, dashboards at their fingertips. Favorites are similar to bookmarks in a web browser, providing quick access to frequently used items. This feature is new in Lightning Experience.

Click to add the current page. If the star is highlighted, the current page is already in your favorites. To remove a favorite, click the highlighted star.

Productivity Features

Your company’s marketing and sales teams can take email marketing farther with list emails. They can curate a list view of targeted contacts, leads, and person accounts. They can also send a separate, personalized email to each recipient on the list. This change applies to Lightning Experience and all versions of the Salesforce1 mobile app. Available in: Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions.

It’s now possible to use Salesforce Classic templates in Lightning for Gmail. With tasks debuting in Lightning for Gmail, keeping tabs on to-do lists is easier for your sales team. Get a taste of artificial intelligence with Einstein Lead Scores for leads on your emails. This feature is available to be managed from both Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic.

These changes apply to Lightning Experience and all versions of the Salesforce1 mobile app. Available in: All Editions.

  • Make Sure Your Reps Never Forget to Remember with Task Reminders When reps set reminders for their tasks, they don’t forget their to-dos. And regardless of whether a rep is setting a deadline or a milestone check, reminders keep them on time. This change applies to Lightning Experience and all versions of the Salesforce1 mobile app.

  • Help Reps Stay on Task with Task Notifications Visual cues keep your reps on time and on task. Notifications, the notifications tray, and task icons remind reps that they have tasks to do. This change applies to Lightning Experience and all versions of the Salesforce1 mobile app.

  • Get Your Fill of Past and Archived Activities with All Activity History It’s useful for your sales reps to see activities for every account, opportunity, and contact. But what if a rep wants to see everything that’s ever been done? They use the All Activity History page to get that view into the past. The view includes all past and archived activities. This change applies to Lightning Experience only.

  • Filter More Ways in the Activity Timeline There’s a new way for your reps to narrow what they see in the activity timeline, by filtering on list emails. This change applies to Lightning Experience and all versions of the Salesforce1 mobile app.

Reps can get more done with fewer clicks when working from list views. Edit multiple records from a list view, and wrap text in columns to see more at a glance. Applies to Lightning Experience only. Available in: Contact Manager, Personal, Group, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions.

  • List View Column Widths Dynamically Adjust to the Content No longer experience excessive white space in columns or content that is out of view. Columns in list views, search results, related lists, and elsewhere, such as the App Manager in Setup, are now sized based on the length of the data within them. When you resize your screen, the columns adjust accordingly. This feature is disabled when you set a fixed column width. This change applies to Lightning Experience only.

  • Set Custom Column Widths on More List Views Sticky column widths have arrived for Recently Viewed list views, related lists, and search results! Change your column widths, navigate away, and when you return, your custom column widths are still there. This change applies to Lightning Experience only.

  • Reset Custom List View Column Widths to Their Default You can change the column widths for list views, related lists, and search results. But what if you want to revert all those changes? Just use the new Reset Column Widths setting in the list view controls to get back to the default widths. This change applies to Lightning Experience only.

  • Wrap Text in List Views Tired of seeing only part of each field in a list view? We’ve got you covered, because now you can wrap text in list view columns. This change applies to Lightning Experience only.

  • Use Clone or Save As to Make List Views Your Own Found a list view that you like, but don’t have permission to edit it and save your changes? It’s easy to create a list view by using Save As or Clone and then make a few tweaks. If you created list views in this way using Salesforce Classic, you can now do it in Lightning Experience. This change applies to Lightning Experience only.

  • Edit More Records at Once with Mass Inline Editing Your reps can now update up to 200 records without leaving a list view. This feature is new in Lightning Experience.

Are your users tired of clicking to see all the columns in a related list? With the Related List Quick Links component, they can view multiple related lists in quick succession just by hovering over a link. And, they can complete actions right from within the hover pane.

The Related List Quick Links component is available for record pages only.

The component displays two rows of related list links in large or medium page regions, and six rows in small regions. Users can view the remaining related list links by clicking , which expands the component. When a user hovers over a related list quick link, the first 10 items in the related list display.

Chatter

Emojis have arrived! Engage your audience by adding zest to your feed. When you post, comment, and add details to your questions, or when you answer questions, the emoji icon appears in the Chatter publisher. Emojis are available in Lightning Experience and Lightning communities.

Taking a vacation or other leave? Want everyone to know when they should leave you alone? The newly enhanced Out of Office feature is for you. You can set the dates you're away and add a custom message. Your message and dates display prominently next to your name in Chatter, not just on your profile but almost anywhere that your name appears. This change applies to Lightning Experience only.

By default, the Out of Office message is “Out of Office” along with the start and end dates that you select. You can change it to something more fun, such as “At the Beach” or “Playing with Dolphins.”

Dashboards

Embed dashboards to the Home Tab using the Lightning App Builder. Customize the Home tab, or create a Lightning app, then drag-and-drop a dashboard component into place. Embedded dashboards are not available on record pages.
